Help on foreign currency please x?
I am going for a 2 week holiday to Zante on 1st June (cant wait) but my partner and are going self catering so will need to take about £600 worth of Euros. What is the best way to take it, travellers cheques ? or these new foreign currency cards ? and has any one used these new cards and if so do most places accept them and which works out better exchange rate wise? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you in advance xxx.

- i would swap it for cold hard cash, cash euros are accepted everywhere, even the markets if you decide to go to any. I beleive that the simpler the better because it makes things a lot easier!
- Take about €100 and the rest in travellers cheques... you can normally change these at your hotel... or use the cashpoints out there to remove the need of carrying the cash/cheques with you
- Hi there I work for one of the UK's leading fx providers. The best thing to do would be to take a mix of products, that way you won't go too far wrong. Traveller's cheques are great for security, but it can be a pain to queue up and find a bank or hotel to change them at. If you do decide to take some, then take GBP cheques - that way, if you don't use them all you can change them back without exchange rate charges when you get back. Cash is always good, but if you lose it, you are scuppered, so I wouldn't take too much. Check what the cash limit is that you are covered for on your travel insurance, and don't take any more than that in cash. At least that way, if you DO lose it, you will be covered. Euros is the best currency to take to Zante. The pre-paid currency cards have the same security features as the traveller's cheque, plus they are waterproof (handy if you fall in a pool or vomit on one!). However, acceptance CAN be a bit patchy - particularly if it's VISA Electron rather than full VISA. However, in Zante you should be ok. I would suggest taking perhaps £200 worth in cash, the rest in either travellers cheques or the prepaid card, and also take a credit card in case of emergeny. Re: exchange rates - I wouldn't worry too much about them. On the amount you are taking, you will only save a couple of pounds regardless of where you get it. Hope this helps.
- Take it in Euro Traveler Ch., because if you get them stolen or you lost them, it takes about 1-2 hours to get them replaced. Cash would be gone forever, cards take days to be replaced.
- carry cash,be safe or use credit cards.
- I have not tried the currency cards. However, I normally take a mixture of currency for security. I take some in travellers cheques, some cash and for the rest I use a debit or credit card. My cards are insured with Sentinel so I do not have to worry so much about them getting stolen
- can't disagree with ash but i tend to take about half cash half trav cheques cos if they're lost or stolen you can report the numbers and get them replaced
- Hi, Just take about 100euros in cash and the rest in travellers cheques, make sure you have your travellers cheque serial numbers in a separate bag with all the telephone numbers you may need if they are stolen, don't take it all in cash someone i knew had their cash stolen on the first day of their holidays and had to rely on his friends to help him out. Enjoy your holidays.
- Cash is the best ( I see you go with only 600 pounds) so this is a safe small amount to carry, but be cautious...
