where can you exchange foreign currency in coins?

is there a bank or a place in the uk where you can exchange foreign currency in coins? I have alot of euros and maltese lira, but it's in coins. When I went to HSBC, they said that they cannot exchange coins, but it would be a shame to waste the money!

  1. Most places will not accept coins from another country. If you notice when you exchange pounds for Euros in the UK, they give you UK coins as change, not Euro change. What I did when I lived in Holland, and traveled to the UK a lot was I found people in the airport to get rid of (or really exchange) my change with. That might be tough to find someone. But basically you need to find someone who is traveling to that country and can use the coins. Perhaps an advert on a local web site or go to a travel agent and see if they will do that?.. you will probably have to take an 20% discount on the exchange rate...
  2. How much do you have? Maybe I'll buy them off of you. Contact me. jwordsy (yahoo)
  3. i am pretty sure you can exchange your currency at a local bank. or you can try an airport close to you. otherwise the only thing i can tell you is that there are places by some bridges that will exchange currency.
  4. You can exchange foreign monies at any bank. I have done this with money I have left over from overseas trips.
  5. I didn't think anyone exchanged coins - I have used the bank and the post office before and found exactly the same thing as yourself. If you have euros you will surely need the coins again in the future??
