How long can I hold foreign currency in India?

I have a few hundred dollars with me. I am an Indian citizen and earned this money during a short visit to the USA. How long can I retain foreign currency notes in India?

3. I don't think there is any time limit on this. I know of friends who had kept a few hundred dollars for nearly five years before converting to rupees. (And they did the currency conversion legally, not through any shady dealers).
4. no limit if ur holding upto five hundred dollars, if it is more thanthat u must deposit it in ur bank account . maximum holding is six months
