Why did they stop making fractional currency?
Why was it only made during the civil war and then why was it stop, why didnt they just continue with it instead of coins

- too confusing.
- They quit because it was difficult to use and had to be replaced often. Imagine how many times a nickel gets used and doesn't wear out. The same wouldn't apply for a fractional currency in paper form like a dollar bill. Coins have a very long life. About the worst that can happen to a coin is for someone to hoard it and keep it out of circulation. Otherwise, they last for a hundred years or more.
