  1. International Airport or a bank. I had thailand currency and the banks near me wouldnt exchange it so it depends on the bank and what type of currency because they exchanged just about every currency except Thai at my local bank but Im in a small town where there are no thais so if I went to a larger city the banks would exchange it, but the airports can always exchange it.
  2. If you are in the US, few banks deal with forex. The majors (B of A, Chase, Citibank) have forex trading departments and are able to do it, though the local branch office is generally quite helpless and stupid about it. If this is where you bank, tell them they have a whole dept trading forex, and they can do it, so call and get instructions on how! American Express Travel Services also exchange forex. A few offices even carry cash in several currencies, e.g. the office on Park Avenue, NYC, just 2 or 3 blocks north of Grand Central Terminal. And then there are the foreign currency kiosks at international airports, but their exchange rate is the worst. Still, for travelers, it's the only convenient option -- change money when you land at the airport. Getting into them other than when you are actually arriving/departing the airport means going through airport security and all. Difficult.
